Sinus Congestion

Sinuses are the hollow spaces in your skull and facial bones that make your skull light in weight, provide nasal resonance and act as a transport medium for air. Like chest and nasal congestion, accumulation of fluids and excess production if mucus secretions cause congestion and blockage of sinuses. The sinus most commonly affected is maxillary sinus, followed by frontal sinus.

Sinus congestion can cause a runny nose, deepening of the voice, loss of vocal resonance and pain. The pain could be a headache or specific to the location of a particular sinus. For example, congestion of frontal sinus results in a severe headache while maxillary sinus congestion causes pain around the nose and behind the eyes that usually aggravates while chewing food or bending forward. Nasal decongestants and home remedies like mint steam inhalation can treat this sign effectively.
