Not Engaging in Play with Peers
ASD can influence the development of play skills in the child. An autistic child may not be able to copy simple actions or share objects with his peers. They are unaware of the other people’s emotions. They find it hard to read body language of person in front of them. Social isolation is very commonly seen in autistic children. They even find it difficult to interact with fellow peers, let alone playing with them.
Social isolation is one of the major symptoms of children suffering from ASD. They tend to prefer their own company. They suffer from extreme lack the confidence which restrict them from interacting with others. It is important for teachers and parents to recognize such shortcomings in children and intervene as early as possible. Early interventions can have great outcomes for the improvement of quality of life of the children.
