Cervical radiculopathy
Cervical radiculopathy involves pinching of nerves in the neck. This condition typically develops when a nerve root from the spinal cord originating from the neck becomes compressed or irritated by certain factors. This gives rise to a sharp pain that radiates from the neck to the shoulder and arm.
Besides neck pain, cervical radiculopathy can also cause muscle weakness, tingling sensations, and numbness around the area of the nerve involved or through the arms or hands.
Other joint conditions, such as bony spurs and arthritis, can also lead to cervical radiculopathy. Some cases can also be due to injuries resulting in a herniated cervical disk.
