Stomach pain and cramping
The inflammation secondary to Crohn’s disease can cause cramping in the intestines. The constant cramping can put a ton of pain into your life. In addition, people with Crohn’s may eventually experience narrowing and scarring of their intestinal walls scarring – two things that can lead to intestinal strictures. Strictures cause pain and bloating because it’s difficult for the stool to get through.
These changes in the structure of the intestinal wall are the reasons why most people with Crohn’s disease experience constipation, along with bloody diarrhea. This symptom is called alternative diarrhea and constipation.
