Nuts
If you have been advised a low-fiber diet for ulcerative colitis, nuts, including those cooked in other foods should be on your do – not-eat list. Nuts also contain a considerable amount of fiber that can be hard for your gut to digest. It’s best to avoid the following nuts:
- Walnuts
- Pecans
- Almonds
- Cashews
- Peanuts
- Macadamia nuts
- Seeds (such as sesame seeds, dried peas, beans, and lentils, flax seeds, pine nuts, millet, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds)
- Wild rice
- Pistachios
Like nuts, seeds are also known to aggravate symptoms. Seeds are a type of insoluble fiber (but still they fiber) – which can cause bloating, gas, diarrhea, and other irritating side effects.
