Reduced Muscle Tone

Reduced muscle tone

The babies suffering from SMA type 1 have weaker and thinner muscles due to the less motor neuron in the body. The weakening of muscles makes the limbs grow floppy and limp. There is a lack of flexibility, and the kids cannot sit without support; they are less active and cannot raise their head muscle weakness, and wasting gets worse with time. There is sometimes pain, numbness, and swelling, along with muscle wasting. The muscles weakness also develops as a result of spinal muscular atrophy, and malnourishment starts developing in the patient’s suffering. Malnourishment also leads to wasting of the muscle mass, thus leading to the reduction of muscle tone.
