Paget’s Disease Of Bone
Paget’s disease is a condition in which the bone formation is not synchronized with the normal remodeling of the bone. This condition has no known cause and results in abnormally weakened soft tissues and bone deformities. Depending on the location, it can cause localized bone pain along with other symptoms such as numbness, burning, and thickening of involved bony areas. When it involves the lower vertebrae of the spinal cord, it usually causes the radiating lower extremity pain of sciatica.
Paget’s disease of the bone is more common in people over 50 years of age. Certain unusual virus infections and heredity (genetic background) have been suggested as high-risk factors of this condition.
