Neurological examination
The diagnosis for lower back pain also involves a motor examination that mainly involves the manual movements of knee, big toe extension and hips. The doctor also checks the flexion i.e the forward and backward movement of the patient’s limbs as well as the movement of ankle. The neurological exam also includes a sensory exam which tests the reaction of the patient to a pin prick, light touch, and other senses in the buttock, lower trunk and legs.
