Arthritis
Low back pain is a common sign of a specific type of arthritis called spondyloarthropathies. It is a complex condition that involves inflammation of the sacroiliac joints and can be due to ankylosing spondylitis, reactive arthritis (Reiter’s disease), arthritis of inflammatory bowel disease, and psoriatic arthritis. Each of these joint conditions can cause moderate to severe low back pain and stiffness of the spinal cord.
Spondyloarthropathies due to any joint condition are treated with anti-inflammatory medications. High potency anti-inflammatory agents are proven to be highly effective at both quieting the disease and stopping its progression.
