Degenerative Disc Disease
Wearing and tearing of the vertebral discs either due to aging or physical trauma can lead to degenerative disc disease. These discs are protective cushions that act as a shock absorber. So when they degenerate due to any underlying cause, the vertebrae may start rubbing against each other that leads to signs and symptoms such as low back pain and swelling. Like many other disc conditions, the pain usually worsens with bending, twisting, walking, and lifting heavy objects.
