Anthralin
Anthralin is a human-made tar-like substance available in the form of ointment and creams. Anthralin is also a conventional treatment for alopecia areata. Patients can apply this cream onto the bald patches once or twice a day according to the prescription of doctor and then washed away after some time typically after thirty to sixty minutes. It may take up to twelve weeks in hair regrowth after starting the application of anthralin. This medicine has some side effects that include irritation and discoloration of the skin.
