Oral Medicines
Apart from injections and topical ointments, there are also oral drugs available to treat alopecia areata. Doctors prescribe the short term use of oral drugs due to adverse effects related to these medicines. These drugs include cyclosporine and methotrexate and some other oral drugs. The side effects of these medicines include the chances of developing cancer, infections, kidney damage, liver dysfunction, and high blood pressure.
