Anaphylaxis Risk factors
Anaphylaxis Risk factors

Certain factors may make the person more susceptible to get anaphylaxis. Among these are:

  • Previous anaphylactic attacks: anaphylaxis may worsen with subsequent attacks due to strengthening of the immune response every time the person gets exposed to the allergen
  • A pre-existing sensitivity to certain allergens, like hay-fever, rhinitis, asthma etc.
  • A family history of allergy and sensitivity.
  • Age: anaphylaxis due to different causes can be associated with different populations. Food allergies are a common cause in children. Insect venom-induced anaphylaxis more commonly targets adults in their early twenties. The elderly age group is a target of medicine-induced anaphylaxis.
