Symptoms Related To the oral cavity
In an anaphylactic reaction,
- Swelling of the lips: The lips often swell to considerable size, causing the shutting of the mouth. It may also be accompanied by painful opening and closing of the mouth.
- Swollen tongue: In some of the common food-induced anaphylaxis, the tongue may become excessively enlarged, swollen and painful.
- Inability to speak: The enlarged tongue can fill the entire space of the mouth, which can further lead to obstruction of the oral cavity, and difficulty in articulation of speech.
- Bad taste: Patients may also feel a metallic taste in the mouth or a burning sensation in the tongue.
