Anemia : Overview, Symptoms, Causes, Types, and Dietary Guidelines
Aplastic Anemia
In this type of anemia, the body cannot produce sufficient red blood cells that can meet the demand of the body. Aplastic anemia is a severe disorder of the bone marrow resulting in an inadequate synthesis of blood cells. This disease may be mild or severe, acute, or chronic. This disease can occur at any age and cause many other health complications such as recurrent infections, blood clotting problems, heart failure, an increase in heart size, and fast heart rate.
Many reasons can cause damage to bone marrow, which include chronic diseases, medications, long term exposure to toxic chemicals (benzene, lead, arsenic, pesticides), radiation therapy, and infectious diseases. Chest pain, paleness of skin, dizziness, fatigue are some of the common signs of aplastic anemia. Doctors treat this anemia by several methods that involve medications, surgery, blood transfusion, or bone marrow transplant.
