Anemia : Overview, Symptoms, Causes, Types, and Dietary Guidelines

Avoid Foods That Contain Phytates

Phytate is also known as phytic acid; it hinders the absorption of minerals present in the diet. These minerals include calcium, manganese, zinc, copper, and iron. They are mostly present in plant-based foods and foods that have a high amount of fiber. Brown rice, whole wheat, nuts, soybeans, and whole grains are fiber-rich foods. Processing of foods removes the fiber content, and hence refined foods have a low amount of phytic acid. Phytic acid binds with minerals and make them unavailable for absorption.
