Anxiety is a common response to stress in all people, but for those who get diagnosed with anxiety disorders, a group of personality traits can be narrowed down. These traits can risk, or eventually cause anxiety disorders. Anxiety disorders are defined by the inability to cope with the causative factor, and individual personality is an important determiner in this regard. Some of these traits are:

  • Overthinking: anxiety is all about overthinking. Controlling thought process is an important control of anxiety. Overthinking is a spiral which eventually lands the person in a quagmire of negative thoughts.
  • Perfectionism: trying to bring about perfect results for every effort can harm the mental health in many ways. Such people begin to develop an excessive fear of mistakes, and apprehend the results even before completion of task. When met with unexpected results, the anxiety is multiplied in upcoming experiences to evade the previous result.
  • Pre-planning everything: raising expectations to unreal standards is also a common trait in anxiety patients. Each time the result falls short of expectations, anxiety is enhanced.
  • Rigidity: people inflexible to changing circumstances often fall prey to anxiety.
