Mechanisms behind anxiety
There have been seen a significant biological change in the brain activity in anxiety patients. Simply put, there may be a decreased release of a neurotransmitter, or hyperactivity of another region of the brain. Apart from these biological changes, anxiety is also explained as a defense mechanism. This defense mechanism becomes integrated in psychological personality of the child when something is perceived as a fear or threat repeatedly. There also has been significant evidence of involvement of genes, predisposing patients to anxiety. A mutation in gene responsible for certain neurochemical transporters is seen to be the underlying cause in 5% of patients.
