Posing a challenge to the patients themselves and also to those around, brain tumors can affect behavior and cause personality changes. This is manifested as:

  • Mood swings
  • Irritability
  • Difficulty in planning and organizing
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Nervousness
  • Lack of interest in activities
  • Difficulty in acknowledgement of emotions.

The loss of inhibition in the actions and loss of judgement can result in the patient’s involvement in acts that are socially or culturally inappropriate.

Personality and behavior is the function of the frontal lobe of the brain. Primarily, the tumors in the frontal lobe present with mood alteration symptoms. Temporal lobe tumors and tumors that involve the pituitary gland can also cause personality changes. Because the pituitary governs the secretion of major endocrine hormones, its pathology can lead to serious effects on behavior and logic.
