Seizures

Seizures are a prognostic sign of brain tumors, particularly gliomas. About 70-90% of patients of gliomas, have at least one seizure attack. It’s the low-grade neurological tumor type that is primarily associated with seizure attacks. Presentation of seizure in a non-epileptic patient can be a sign of disturbance at the level of the brain. A tumor can impair the balance of certain chemical compounds, especially of glutamate and chloride ion, which can then interfere with the electrical pathways in the brain and neuron network. This interference in the electrical conduction of the brain may present with different types of seizures, depending upon the location of the tumor and its extent and spread.

About 15-50% of these seizures are reported to be refractory to pharmacological intervention.
