Cigarette Smoke
Exposure to cigarette smoke can irritate the airways and increase the likelihood of a person with asthma experiencing more frequent and severe symptoms. Even when people smoke outside the home or in a car, the smoke and chemicals that linger can expose others to having lung allergies.
Secondhand smoke, or indoor tobacco smoke, is a combination of both the smoke irritants exhaled by cigarette smokers, pipes, or cigars, and the burning tobacco itself. Toxic tobacco smoke contains over 250 different cancer-causing chemicals like benzene, vinyl chloride, and arsenic that can irritate the airways and cause symptoms of asthma.
