Allergies Linked to Asthma
Allergies and asthma usually coexist with each other. Allergies are an indication of who could be at risk for asthma. A nationwide study showed levels of bacterial toxins in house dust called endotoxins were directly associated with symptoms of asthma.
Other indoor allergen sources include animal proteins (especially allergies to cats and dogs), cockroaches, dust mites, fungi, and molds. Changes that have made homes more “energy-efficient” over the years are believed to increase exposure to these asthma triggers.
