Acoustic-wave therapy
This is another method that uses energy in the form of pressure waves to target the skin. The focused shock wave and the radial shock wave are the two types of acoustic waves used in cellulite treatment. The energy induces proper lymphatic drainage, improves microcirculation, and is also seen to cause lipolysis, the metabolic process of fat breakdown. Aside from slight local pain, a satisfactory result rate is reported.
None of these methods claim to provide a life-long cure for cellulite. At most, they offer results that last from a few months in case of radiofrequency to a few years in case of subcision. The best methodology hence can be to combine two or more of these strategies. This simple maneuver helps deal with more than one of the underlying causes. For example, using laser-assisted liposuction to get rid of excess fat and radiofrequency to thicken the skin, or massages to improve local circulation. However, more extensive research-based trials are required to provide a confirmed plan. The treatment of cellulite has a few cons that should be kept in mind before committing to any single technique
Cost: most of the treatments employing modern techniques are expensive. Combined with the multiple sessions required to reach the desired results, they may not be very favorable if you are looking for an economical choice.
Short-term results: cellulite eventually returns even after the most elaborate treatment plans. If not in full severity, an undulating appearance can be seen after a few months of therapy.
Allergic side effects: injectable technique uses a plethora of different chemicals which poses a sensitivity risk in some patients. This may vary from local redness and irritation to cardiac side effects. Testing with a small quantity is a good precaution in this regard.
Maintenance sessions: cellulite cure would require extensive tissue remodeling. In the best bet to prevent a recurrence, multiple sessions to ensure maintenance of the results are required.
A consultancy with a dermatologist or a cosmetic surgeon can be really helpful to diagnose and plan the course of action. Based on the histology of cellulite that may vary from person to person, a dermatologist can help choose what works best for you.
