Lack of supervision and proper safety gear for contact sports
Athletes who take part in high-risk sports like rugby, boxing, soccer, hockey, and football are at higher risk of getting a head injury due to an abrupt or violent blow to their heads. Sometimes, the lack of supervision in teen athletes and the unavailability of the proper safety gear can cause head injuries like concussions. The blow can also sometimes lead to a microscopic damage to the brain cells which goes without diagnosing as there is no visible structural damage on a CT scan. In severe cases of head injuries, the tissues in brain can start to swell. As the brain cannot go beyond the rigid structural confines of the skull, severe inflammation can cause compression of the brain and its blood vessels. The compressing of the brain and blood vessels can in turn limit the blood flow. The brain is not able to get the necessary flow of oxygen and other nutrients without an adequate blood flow. There is an alarming possibility of a stroke in severe cases of concussion patients.
