Brain swelling due to a concussion can significantly increase the severity of the brain damage even more with time rather than recovering from it. A blow to the head due to physical abuse of any kind can result in a more severe initial injury to your brain. Sometimes, a blow to the head can also lead to a contusion which is a bruise of brain tissues that involves swelling and bleeding of the brain. However, in some cases of concussion patients a skull fracture also occurs when the abrupt and violent blow to the head causes the bones of the skull to break. Sometimes, a skull fracture can lead to nerve damage and bleeding in the brain by cutting into the brain leading to a concussion.
