Concussion Diagnosis
In certain circumstances, detailed testing is the first suggestion by the healthcare providers if there are any symptoms that hint towards a more severe injury to the patient’s brain. The most common in practice diagnostic tests for a suspected brain injury like concussion is a computerized tomography (CT) scan. However, if the physical examination shows visible damage to the bones in patient’s neck then an X-ray might be of more help to assess the severity of the damage in no time. In addition, CT scans are not a suitable diagnostic test for younger children especially under the age of 10 years but some cases might require the CT scanning. [4]
CT scanning
A CT scan captures a series of X-rays of the internal structures of the skull and arranges them together using a computer. The computerized scan creates images of a cross-section of the internal structures of the brain and skull.
