DEEP VEIN THROMBOSIS:Symptoms, Signs, Causes, Diagnosis,Risk Factors,Types and Treatments

Surgical procedures

Sometimes, the doctor may suggest surgery to remove a DVT clot in the deep veins. A surgical procedure is rarely needed and only performed and recommended in case of a very large blood clot or clots that are causing serious medical complications, like tissue damage and impairs blood supply to vital organs.

Following are some of the techniques used for surgical removal of Clot:

  1. Thrombectomy:

In thrombectomy, a precise incision is made into the blood clot location, and the careful procedure is carried out to remove the clot. After removal, the blood vessels are repaired in certain steps for preventing any other damage and blood loss.

  1. Fasciotomy:

Fasciotomy is used in a severe case of DVT when the other interventions failed to perform better. It is a surgical procedure, in which an incision is made into the fascia to relive and remove the pressure to restore the normal blood circulation in the clogged veins. Fasciotomy is performed when DVT results in Acute compartment syndrome or the DVT no more responding to medications. In some cases, they utilize a small inflating balloon to keep the blood vessel open to remove the clot. The balloon is removed soon after the clot removal. When the clot is found and removed, the balloon is removed with it.

Surgeries are not without risks, may causes infections, damage to the blood vessel, and excess bleeding.
