Muscle cramps
Contrary to the popular belief about cramps arising from excessive water loss, muscle cramps are an outcome of depleted stores of electrolytes in dehydration, coupled with an inadequate blood supply to replenish this deficit of ions. A study investigates that intake of plain water cannot reverse the muscle cramps, but rather makes muscles more susceptible by decreasing the threshold of electrical stimulation to induce contraction in the muscle. This is because excess water will then dilute the electrolytes. Taking ORS water is, hence, better in case of muscle cramps.
