Elderly people are more prone to get dehydrated an also have a higher rate of suffering from cognitive deficit as a result of dehydration. Dehydration can also cause neurological symptoms that include temporary memory loss and decrease in cognitive ability of the patients. Women and elderly, especially dementia patients are more vulnerable population in this regard. In young adults, it is a fairly reversible process, but elderly patients can get permanent damage to brain tissue in severe dehydration.
