Signs of dehydration in children
Dehydration is also commonly seen in children and babies. Apart from the telltale signs of dehydration discussed above; thirst, dry mouth and decreased urination, following are additional signs to look out for in dehydrated children.
- No tears
It is normal for babies to cry without tears, as their tear duct have not fully developed. In children, however, tearless crying in children can be a sign of dehydration. The reason is simple loss of dehydration and resultant dry eyes. Eyes also become itchy due to loss of lubrication of tear film.
- Soft spot on forehead
While the baby’s skull is still developing, it has fontanelles or soft spots that allow bone growth. With other symptoms of dehydration, a sunken soft spot indicates dehydration.
