You can experience a variety of different symptoms when suffering from diarrhea, depending on whether the diarrhea is mild or severe. It is common for severe diarrhea to occur along with another medical condition.

It is common to experience diarrhea in a variety of ways. One or all of these may occur at the same time or separately. It depends on what caused the condition. People often feel one or more of the following symptoms:

  • Feeling nauseated
  • Pain in the abdomen
  • Having cramps
  • Bloating
  • Dehydration
  • Feel a constant urge to expel your bowels.
  • Stools in large quantities.

Mild diarrhea can also result in the following symptoms:

  • An abdominal cramp or bleeding may occur.
  • An urgent and strong need to go to the bathroom.
  • Nausea (uncomfortable stomach).

Severe diarrhea can also result in the following symptoms:

  • Fever
  • Weight loss
  • Dehydration
  • Severe pain
  • Vomiting
  • Blood

The following symptoms may also be present with diarrhea caused by some infections:

  • Bleeding in the stools
  • Chills and fever
  • Dizziness and light-headedness
  • Vomiting

Significant complications can arise from severe diarrhea. You should seek medical treatment immediately if you suffer from these symptoms.

Diarrhea can lead to malabsorption and dehydration.
