Patellofemoral pain syndrome

Patellofemoral pain syndrome or runner’s knee is very common among young adults and adolescents which occur due to performing vigorous activities. Putting an extra strain on the knee by performing activities like climbing stairs, running, or squatting leads to patellofemoral pain syndrome. Patellofemoral pain syndrome results in an aching and dull pain below the kneecap and are also known as chondromalacia patella which refers to the wearing and softening of the cartilage surrounding the knee cap. There is also a possibility of an abnormal alignment of the knee joint in patellofemoral pain syndrome. In addition, the pain gets worse by frequent sitting or bending for longer durations.
