Changes in one or more normal genes suggest the cause of Dupuytren’s contracture. A process known as Wnt signalling pathway helps the division and growth of cells and also has involvement in the determination of functions such as cell differentiation. The faulty genes in the individuals having Dupuytren’s contracture cause disturbances in the biological process of the Wnt signalling pathway. The disturbances in the Wnt signalling pathway results in the excess production of connective tissue proteins and abnormal contraction of muscles which leads to the crippling of fingers. If a person has some relatives having the history of Dupuytren’s contractive are more prone to get the condition at some stage of his or her life.
