Anxiety
Anxiety is a feeling of fear about the future events. It is an associate of epilepsy, however, it is not very clear how it relates to epilepsy. A diagnosis of a lot of chronic diseases like epilepsy can lead to anxiety. The patient may become anxious about an imminent spell of seizure. However, it anxiety is not only an emotional state of mind. It has neurobiological roots. There are clear signs that neural pathways which trigger a seizure can also trigger anxiety as a symptom. The altered state of consciousness or aura which sets in before an epileptic seizure may be accompanied by simultaneous anxiety.
Another theory to explain anxiety associated with epilepsy is as a medicinal side-effect. As an anti-epileptic medicine regulate ion balances to control seizures, the same mechanism can trigger neural pathways to perceive a sense of anxiety.
