For those with a herniated disk in the lower spine (lumbar or sacral region), strengthening the hamstrings can help better support their back and core. Try the following exercises for leg pain:

Seated chair stretch

This chair exercise help stretches hamstrings and leg muscles to ease pain and discomfort.

How to do it: 

  1. Sit in a flat-surfaced chair with one foot on the floor. Extend the other foot straight such that placing its heel on the floor.
  2. Straighten the back and core. Now, lean forward over the extended leg until you feel a gentle stretch along the upper thigh.
  3. Hold this stretching position for 15–20 seconds.
  4. Switch legs and repeat for at least three times a day.
