Conditions that increase the blood volume, especially hypertension due to genetics or idiopathic causes and pregnancy, may lead to an increase in the size of blood vessels that pass through the spinal canal. When the size of the blood vessels increases, it will narrow the space inside the canal which compresses the sciatic nerve.
