Taking Diuretics
Taking diuretics might increase the risk of developing gout by elevating the buildup of uric acid crystals in a joint or nearby tissue. The reason behind is that the diuretics cause an increase in urination which lowers the amount of fluids in our body. However, the remaining fluid has higher concentration levels which might elevate the risk of developing urate crystals that result in gout. Certain types of diuretics can also minimize the ability of kidneys to excrete urate which is a component of uric acid. The doctor will decide whether it is suitable for your or not to continue the use of diuretics or switch to some other medication. There are several other types of medications to control blood pressure with the added value of lowering uric acid.
