Purines are present in plant and animal foods which might worsen the condition of gout patients. As the body converts these purines into uric acid, eating the foods with some purines in it can cause elevation of uric acid levels in the blood. Eating vegetables in moderate amounts per meal can help in reducing uric acid levels in gout patients. A study indicates that the consumption of animal basing foods with high amounts of purines in them might elevate the risk of developing gout. However, eating plant basing foods that comprise of purines does not cause the same effect. The researchers suggest that consuming full-fat dairy products are also harmless for gout patients as they also appear to increase blood uric acid levels. Although having low-fat dairy products in your diet can help in controlling the development and progression of gout. Red and organ meats

Organ meats like liver, kidney, sweetbread, and brains are rich in purines which causes an elevation in blood uric acid levels. Red meat like beef, mutton, bison, and venison can also add to the blood uric acid levels to some extent and cause a spur in gout symptoms.
