Hemorrhoid stapling

Hemorrhoid stapling or stapled hemorrhoidopexy is the procedure in which the surgeon blocks the blood flow to hemorrhoidal tissue, and this method is usually for the internal hemorrhoids. The stapling procedure does not cause more pain than hemorrhoid removal surgery and allows the patient to perform the regular activities of life sooner. However, stapling as compared with hemorrhoid removal surgery often associates with a higher risk of recurrence of rectal prolapse in which a portion of rectum detaches from the anus. Furthermore, the complications of hemorrhoid stapling include urinary retention, pain, and bleeding in the rectum and anus. There is also a rare risk of having sepsis or blood infection.
