  • Lateral hip pain

Several conditions might affect the outer side of your hip joint. The diagnosis will rely on how vast the affected area is.

  • Trochanteric bursitis

Bursae are fluid-filled small pouches that act as a cushion to lower friction where parts of your body move over to one another. For instance, where ligaments or tendons pass over your bones. If you are experiencing tenderness over the bone part of your hip joint, you might have trochanteric bursitis. This is occurring by inflammation of the bursa at the front part of the thigh bone. Inflammation is a general reaction to an injury or infection and gives rise to the bursa getting hot, swollen, and painful.

It is the most occurring condition but there is mostly no actual cause. You might just feel the pain over such a bony part, but it might spread down your leg or it might appear to be occurring from the hip joint itself. Trochanteric bursitis sometimes occurs in both hips. It mostly improves with painkillers, rest, and physiotherapy. (3)
