Western Blot Test

The Western blot diagnostic techniques are used for detecting the specific antibodies produced against HIV and also for confirming the positivity of the ELISA test. We can say it is an immunoblot that determines the characterization of serum antibodies produced against each viral protein. A blood sample from the infected patient is placed for reacting with HIV antigens if the serum contains any antibody it will give a colored band after the addition of different reagents. The band can be visualized, and positivity is examined based on the number and type of bands generated. The accuracy of the western blot test in combination with ELISA is 99.9%.
