Quantitative RNA PCR and Genotyping Test

Quantitative RNA PCR can also be used for detecting the progression of HIV infection. It is only used for monitoring HIV positive persons before or after the intervention of antiretroviral drugs. It may be used alone or in combination with assessing the CD4+ T cell count or with other clinical assessments to predict rational therapy and its outcomes. The Genotyping technique is used for monitoring and assessing any drug resistance to antiviral therapy. It also helps the prescriber in selecting a proper and effective therapeutic regime.

Quantitative RNA PCR does not give accurate results so do not use it alone as it can give a false positive or false negative result, better to apply it in combination or after the previously discussed diagnostic techniques available.
