Lesions In The Oral Cavity
HPV types 6 and 11 can cause similar wart like lesions in the oral cavity. The warts in the oral cavity may appear on the gingiva, hard palate, or tongue. These warts can be cauliflower shaped, or soft, pale projections. Common warts can also occur in the oral cavity with its characteristic presentation. The virus can infect either the skin or in the moist layer lining the inside of organs, called the mucosa. Oral cavity lesions mostly arise from the infection of mucosa. Another presentation is termed as Heck’s disease, which is characterized by plaque like small specks, involving the mucous membranes, typically in children. The lesion may vary in color from pale, to pink to grey. The oral warts are benign condition, characterized by a firmness in texture, and limited spread.
