Cryotherapy

Cryotherapy involves treating the wart with freezing temperature. This procedure uses liquid nitrogen for the desired temperature. A local anesthetic, usually is not required; the liquid nitrogen is directly applied to the wart. It can take from 4 to 7 days for the wart to finally shed off. In some cases of resistant, thick and hard warts, multiple attempts to freeze may be needed. The pain may persist for a few days, but the procedure does not leave any scars.

There are kits that can used by the patients themselves. In place of liquid nitrogen, these kits use diethyl ether and propane as the freezing agent. These kits should not be used to treat genital warts.
