Knee Pain & Knee Problems : Causes, Risk Factors, and Prevention

Mechanical problems

injury of cartilage

Certain mechanical knee problems arise from a sudden movement or a direct blow to the knee that stresses the knee and causes inflammation or even dislocation of the knee joint. Following are some examples of common mechanical knee problems that cause knee pain:

injury of cartilage

In some cases, degeneration or injury of cartilage or bone might cause a portion of cartilage or bone to split off and starts floating in the joint space. Usually, the injury of cartilage does not create a problem unless it starts interfering with the movement of the knee joint. The interference of the injury of cartilage with the knee joint is somewhat similar to a pencil stuck in a door hinge and restricts the knee joint movement as well as causing pain with slight movement.
