Knee pain problems are very common among older adults and also affect the children as well. The evaluation of the knee pain is necessary to determine the underlying cause by the help of mechanic studies along with the anatomical information about the knee structures. The researchers divide knee pain into two broadly different types as the anterior knee pain (AKP) and tibiofemoral knee pain. The doctors use the term “anterior knee pain” when there is no specific diagnosis of the underlying condition causing knee pain and AKP might refer to various symptoms. The anatomy of the knee describes the working of the medial, lateral, and tibiofemoral joints in association with the soft tissue structures. While the extensor mechanism of the knee appears separately and consist of the patellofemoral joint and the tendinous structures.
