Bone Marrow Scan
Patients with bone scans indicating osteoarthritis have higher uptake of tracer by their subchondral bone thus pointing towards increased turnover. The increased turnover has an association with increased risk of joint pain and further knee problems. The histological studies also indicate that those patients having bone marrow lesions also suffer from knee pain and progressively develop radiographic osteoarthritis. The bone marrow lesions in the subchondral bone become the potential source of knee pain in the patients. Moreover, these bone marrow lesions also increase the risk of structural deterioration in knees thus leading towards osteoarthritis.
