Knee Rheumatoid Arthritis
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a degenerative inflammatory condition that affects the large joints as well as the small joints of the feet and the hands. There is an autoimmune reaction which attacks the synovial lining of the knee joint thus leading to the wrecking of the cartilage. The destruction of the cartilage causes changes to the soft tissues surrounding the knee joint thus causing deformity of these soft tissues. The changed biomechanics of the joint speed up the degenerative alterations of the cartilage. Without proper surgical intervention or pharmacological treatment, it might lead to significant pain and disability. [2]
