Epithelial Ingrowths
After having LASIK surgery, epithelial cells relocate between the stromal bed and corneal flap. Epithelial ingrowth mostly occurs while the first 3 months post-surgery, sometimes in the first 2 weeks. The patients might face a decrease in vision due to astigmatic alterations from topographic changes formation by invading cells.
A diagnosis is made usually while the silt-lamp checkup, which exposes pearly white accumulation with a soft outline. If the ingrowth of epithelial gets bigger than 2 mm then there is a need for surgical intervention. This consists of removing the epithelial cells, lifting the flap, and applying a bandage contact lens. (14)
