Other Types Of Lung Cancer
Some other types of lung cancers other than SCLC and NSCLC can also arise in the lungs. These less common types of lung cancers account for about 5-10 percent of all lung cancers.
- Bronchial carcinoids:
These tumors are also known as “neuroendocrine tumors” and account for about 5 percent of lung cancers. Bronchial carcinoids are mostly developed in individuals more than 40 years of age. The size of these tumors is small and ranges from 3-4 cm or less. These are not related to smoking and can spread to other parts of the body and also produce some hormones. They dose not grow rapidly and can be treated well with surgical operations.
- Cancers of supporting tissues:
Cancer can also occur in the supporting tissues like blood vessels, cells of the immune system, and smooth muscles.
